Based in San José, Costa Rica — Principal for Proximita Web Engineering — and an experienced producer of web applications specializing in commercial solutions using best practices and standards driven development.
Merino began developing for web in 1999 when he was part a group that founded a Latin community portal startup in Miami, Florida during the Internet bubble era of the late 1990’s. In 2001 he led the development of a University information Portal in Costa Rica that effectively introduced local internet users to a new user experience.
Since 2004 Merino has developed world-class web applications for a diverse group of clients in Central America, the United States and the United Kingdom. Mario is proud to take part of a business segment that has a low-carbon footprint.
Merino also serves as consultant to U.S. companies, design, and ad agencies as well as tech entrepreneurs in Costa Rica and the United States. Additionally he leads the web communications group of the Costa Rican Chamber of IT and Communications (CAMTIC) where he is leading the initiative to place Costa Rica as a solid outsourcing alternative to other countries.
Mario currently holds a Masters level specialty in Software Engineering from CENFOTEC – Costa Rica, and a degree in Economics from Boston University – Boston, Massachusetts.
